Twins, Archetypes & the Impossiblility of Knowing

There's no point in trying to define the word "soul," everybody knows what is meant with soul depending on the context it's being used in. If a student is asked to define meaning in art and they respond: "The soul of an artwork," then that is a beautiful and concise answer without need to further questioning it. In fact to do so would be to undermine its elegance. Different religions have different definitions of soul, personally, I'm most attracted to the Buddhist variety; the denial of an unchanging self, but I have no authority to comment, not even a good reason for being drawn to it. I grew up being taught the Catholic Doctrine of one soul-one body. It's impossible to know Buddhism unless you're Buddha. No meditation or drug is strong enough to travel into the void.

"I reach out, intuition on my side, but there's nothing."

Two new paintings came out of my studio in recent months, each depicting one of the twins Apollo and Artemis from Greek mythology. Archetypes they are, white as marble, one a major God with feminine characteristics, the other a most independent Goddess. No genders, no sex, no love. They are just there.
